The Lane County Chapter of the Software Association of Oregon (SAO) was formed in 1991, shortly after the establishment of the SAO through a $10,000 grant from the State Legislature. The effort to fund the creation of the SAO was championed by State Senator Grattan Kerans, who was responding to lobbying done by the Eugene Software Council in the late 1980’s.

Although the SAO was established with offices in Portland, the Lane Chapter significantly contributed to the organization’s statewide presence and visibility. The Lane Chapter produced three significant Tech Fairs in 1990’s. The Lane chapter was the conduit for New Economy Coalition efforts in the late 1990’s and has played an important role in lobbying for regional strategies projects and connecting the local technology community with higher education in the region.

Currently the Chapter is producing a chapter meeting on the third Wednesday of each month. Chapter leadership seeks the input of anyone involved in Lane County’s technology community including: managements, technology professionals, and professional service providers who serve the industry.
